Howard Paints new sign for "The White Horse" at Netley Marsh (February 25, 2009)
Howard has re-painted the old pub sign at the White Horse at Netley Marsh.
After Landlady Val Freeman saw an article in the Daily Echo that featured "The Gamekeeper" pub in Woodlands had a new pub sign painted from one of the locals, she approached her own resident artist Howard Mathurine.
The Exterior of the White Horse has had refurbishing work undertaken so Val asked Howard if he could repaint the old sign with a traditional shire horse . Howard took up Vals challenge & the old sign came down & a few days later it was up repainted & new lights installed from another of the pubs locals Andy Oakley. Val always uses her locals to carry out work on the pub as there are so many tradesman that cover a vast array of skills.
Val was delighted with the results & so were the other regulars.
Val said, Howard paints in his art demonsration in the pub on Wednesday's & Thursday afternoons & has on ongoing exhibition of his work on the premisis , so it made sense to ask him. It is a bit different than the normal pub signs you see & is like having two Mathurine original oil paintings on display outside the pub for everyone to see.
Val has plans for a mural outside the pub that Howard has agreed to paint.
